I'm giving away a small piece of original art to one of the first 100 people to like "RoByn Thompson Art" on Facebook.

tenement chicken

Sounds like a recipe that serves many, many people, no?

Bird Housing - Igloo

There's a Russian folktale that includes a house on chicken legs that follows a witch around. Somehow I conflated that into a giant chicken with a house where her head should be. I'm doing them from all over the world. Here's the Inuit version.

What mythology are you creating?

I came across this great quote, “Artists don’t make objects. Artists make mythologies” by Anish Kapoor.
Sometimes I feel like there are metaphors in my my work that I don't understand. There's a Star Trek episode where the aliens speak in metaphors that the Enterprise crew lacks a frame of reference for. It resonated for me.  I can recognize things as significant but do not always understand the significance.

Because everybody likes free stuff...

and everybody needs to be liked.
I'm giving away a print of your choice when I reach 100 likes at RoByn Thompson Art on Facebook.
Here are two of the many manifestations of my labyrinth obsession. These are in watercolor and graphite. As always, click to enlarge.

Current Obsession- Labyrinths.

I walked a labyrinth at church a couple of weeks ago. It has reignited a passion of mine for mazes and labyrinths.  Expect to see a lot of labyrinth motifs in forthcoming work. I had a dream last night about the labyrinth at Knossos. In my dream it was real. I had gone to Knossos decades ago in real life. There is only a very confusing place floorplan with lots of little rooms and alleys there.
When my son was small, we used to play Theseus and the minotaur on the convoluted handicap ramps. Just one of the reasons that he has grown into such an interesting young man. :)
On the labyrinth at church, up to 3 people walked at a time. My husband started shortly after me. We kept passing each other on adjacent paths. I believe that love transcends death. My husband and have have been together in previous lifetimes and will again in future ones. As we passed one another, I was reminded of this. It felt true to my core and I cried.
I've recently begun to follow the blog of a woman who has built a labyrinth in her back yard. I must write to her and find out how her obsession started.
If you'd like to walk a labyrinth and need help finding one, go here.

I have 13 pieces that I need to frame for the Alternative Living Expo this weekend. If you come by my booth and say that you read about it on my blog, I'll have a present for you!

Remember that twitter art show in Norway?

They raised $3500 for kid's books and there's a red dot on my art. Oh happy day!
Further coolness- Hazel Dooney was in the show. I've got a big ol' gal crush on her. She's such a brave and honest artist.
David Sandum, the show organizer, posted a slideshow. The guy on the right is the piece that went off to live in Norway. The gal is still looking for her home. Is it with you?

Feeling a bit owlish?

What does that expression mean anyway? Does anyone say something like that? Why do we only go about anthropomorphizing some animals? Ask someone if they are feeling mollusky and they'll just look at you funny.

Squinty Eyes, Furrowed Brow.

There's something about the juncture of the eyes, nose and brow that reminds me of Pennsylvania Dutch Hex Signs.
